Jadakiss-Somehow Someway

These are the instrumentals that Jadakiss sounds the best over, and ironically these are the instrumentals that Kiss never has on any of his albums. You can find this jawn on The Champ Is Here Vol. 3.

From Crooklyn to the Shaolin Island. By the way, I apologize for the excellent quality of the above photo.
Also, try to tell me you don't shudder when Big drops that 'cliffs to avalanches' rhime.

The Coup-Hip 2 Tha Skeme

This be that Genocide & Juice.  On a sidenote, The Coup's 2nd album features some fairly weak production compared to their other albums, but is still well worth the listen.

The Beatnuts feat. V.I.C.-Fried Chicken

I love this sample and most of the work that The Beatnuts have done with the mighty V.I.C.
On a sidenote, these dudes have lots of quality shits, yet I've put an overemphasis on Street Level. I'm a try and fix that in the upcoming months, so watch for that...

Sad that it took driving hamsters to bring Black Sheep back into the public eye, but hopefully some love will finally be shown to Non-Fiction for the mid-90's opus that it is.

Termanology feat. Reks & Skyzoo-Stars 4 The Bars

You can find this jawn on the Dilla tape that Term released a year or so back. Shit is really some over-hyped blog rapp cuts, but Stars 4 The Bars is a success worth noting. All 3 emcees come with some visceral material and Term bodies the shit something proper.

Klashnekoff-All I Got

Although this jawn is quite sentimental and somewhat cutesy it does possess one of the iller hooks you will find on any UK rapp tape. The idealism of only owning your personal labor makes me wonder why Klashnekoff has yet to collab with the Blue Scholars and their affiliates.

Johnson & Jonson-Hold On John

You can't discount the illness provided by Blu, Mainframe, and John Lennon on this cut. If you're looking for some new-age semi-experimental type shit, then Johnson & Jonson's Powder's & Oils may satisfy your urges.
Personally, I find this jawn to be ill as fuck, but I can see how it could be interpreted as cutesy and the like...

M9-Lost Planet

Mo' UK rapps. This time from Jon Phonics '08 tape Half Past Calm. M9 comes off a little bit preachy and very conscious on this track, but otherwise he rips it on the mic, and this jawn is a gem overall, particularly for Jon Phonics' great ear for samples.

Spice 1-Caught Up In My Gunplay

Surprisingly I haven't dedicated a single post to a pre-'95 Spice 1 cut as of yet. You can bet that's about to change with the quickness. Anyway, Caught Up In My Gunplay is a jawn you can find on the '97 release The Black Bossalini. I'd argue that it's one of Spice's weaker efforts, but shit's still quality so you can't really go wrong if you decide to cop it.

Souls Of Mischief Interview

I only just found this interview by SoulCulture that they conducted with 3 (of the 4) members of the Souls Of Mischief. It's a great interview, because these dudes really detach themselves from their roles as artists and analyze the GOAT argument from an average listener's perspective. Not sure I necessarily agree with the methodology that creativity/originality is necessary for inclusion on a top 10 list, because by that same reasoning you're including Grandmaster Flash, Schoolly D, Too $hort onto a list where they surely don't belong. Or is I tripping?

Grand Puba-Untitled

This is an semi-rare jawn by Grand Puba released on a tape called Rare Selections Vol.2. It's amazing that the Brand Nubian front-man flowing over an immaculate Lord Finesse instrumental can't even get a proper release, but that's the world in which we live in...

The D.O.C.-It's Funky Enough

The D.O.C.'s No One Can Do It Better is one of those records that you can casually mention as being dope in the late '80's-early '90's, but nothing that had the impact of albums dropped by D.O.C. affiliates like Dr. Dre and the entirety of NWA. Still, dukes has heat for days on No One Can Do It Better, and It's Funky Enough is the jawn most people remember...

Warren G feat. Nate Dogg-Regulate

It's somewhat ironic how Nate and Warren were able to capitalize on G-Funk based gangsta rap with the soft narrative of Regulate. In a vacuum this jawn is well dope, but Nate and Warren's storytelling is just comical in reality, and the music video is comedy gold.

ill Poetic-Cincilluminati

If you still haven't heard Ill Poetic's The World Is Ours, you are genuinely missing one of the most soulful and well-constructed projects of the last few years. Dukes put his heart into the music and you can definitely tell with jawns like Cincilluminati, where he captures a feeling so perfectly and puts it into sound.

Method Man-M.E.T.H.O.D. Man

This has always been reference point number one for dudes that claim Mef ain't much of a lyricist. I won't deny that dukes isn't the illest rhymer, but his unmistakable charisma adds immeasurable amounts of dopeness to his jawns, and M.E.T.H.O.D. Man is a prime example of such. By the way, this is that ingenuous Wu Tang music video, probably created on a budget of a few pounds of skunk and 10 minutes of video editing, yet still turning out ill as fuck.

Roc Marciano-L.I. (Stand Up)

Lots of people first heard of Roc Marciano when he released Marcberg earlier this year, but dukes has been active for a long time with The UN. L.I. (Stand Up) is a jawn off his '04 release Strength And Honor. Surprisingly, ill producers like Mike Raw, Nottz, and even Pete Rock contributed instrumentals, but Roc's beats are seemingly far more poignant than those of the more experienced beatsmith's. Although the instrumental for this track is very simplistic, it does express a perfect sound for Roc to lace with some free-association rhimes.

Freddie Gibbs-Boxframe Cadillac

Mo' ganja shit. Truth be told, it seems like the blogs are already off Freddie Gibbs, but I still listen to dukes tape with DJ Skee on the semi-regular. Great production, and Gibbs sounds hungry as fuck on most of the tracks which provides for a great all-around listen. I still have to get around to copping that 80-track compilation dude put out a while back though...

Cover Art Something Visceral Vol.4

Figured I hadn't done one of these posts in a long time, and my internet is slow as shit, so prepare to be serenaded with some ill album covers..

Diamond D-Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop
I don't know that rolling dice with neurotics (particularly kleptomaniacs) is profitable or provides adequate opportunity cost for affording stunts or blunts, but I won't question Diamond D. The real reason I love this album cover is because D owns a green jacket, that's just ill as fuck.

Al Tariq-God Connections
Is Al Tariq armless? Not that it matters either way, but I've seen pictures of dukes with both arms intact, so shit is somewhat paradoxical. Classic '90's album cover, but the sideways shot and the etching of his name just makes this cover look even doper.

Boot Camp Clik-The Chosen Few
Only for #2's hand placement.

Z-Ro:Crack
Because major retailers wouldn't allow Z-Ro to sell this version, and also because Z-Ro is coming out of the flame.

Special Ed-Youngest In Charge
Only because Special Ed was channeling the Souls of Mischief before they even existed.
