Papoose feat. Razah-Lean On Me

I've been looking for quality Pap tracks to post, and I haven't come across very many. That said, I currently only have two of dukes' tapes, and his quality to trash ratio is like 1:20, so I haven't been trying too hard. This track'll do though, the hook is type lame, but Pap does his thing, and the joint comes out sounding alright.

Paul Wall-Bangin' Screw

Haven't posted any of Paul's shit in a minute now. This jawn is off Get Money, Stay True. It's funny cos before I copped that (one of his more commercially-appealing efforts) tape, I listened to all those abysmal tapes that Paul Wall sanctioned Chamillionaire to put his name on, in hopes of DJ Screw/Swishahouse related muzak. Nothing of the sort, this jawn does the job though...

Redman-How To Roll A Blunt

I like the line about Philly blunts, you silly punk! On the real, I don't really fuck with Red's shit too heavy. It's type surprising when I read/hear people say that he's one of the greatest and all that jazz. No doubt dukes had heavy influence in the '90's, and the skills/production were certainly there, but the subject matter is light. How can you be the greatest and yet the majority of your discography is predicated on cannabis & partying? I mean, I like Too $hort & Devin The Dude, but to say that they're among the greatest, come on now...

LA The Darkman-Lucci

Damn, I wish I could've held it down with LA The Darkman, just smoking buddha and playing Madden '97. That's the life! It's been a while since I've heard Heist Of The Century, but it still holds up as one of the great underground albums of that era. Dukes is far from just a Wu affiliate, I mean listen to this track, he made an anthem for everyone collecting greenbacks in the '98.

The Cool Kids-Gold And A Pager

That Beastie Boys delivery meets those Jam Master Jay drums meets those ATCQ references. That said, I would have preferred Gold And A Skypager, but I guess this jawn will do...

Cam'ron-Wet Wipes

That Killa Season shit, nahmean? One of the elite expositions of Cam's word-association techniques. Also, I think it's incredibly dope how Mr. Giles drops the unexpected reference to the Perdue chicken company. Transcending all cultural boundaries.

Alc provides a great instrumental that remains simplistic while providing an excellent canvas for Cam'ron to wax his punchline rapps.
On a sidenote, back in the day Oh Word had a great post about Cam and his rhyming techniques. Check for that here.

Grand Puba-2000

Few people know this, but Grand Puba (of Brand Nubian fame) invented the futuristic swag anthem. For whatever reason, dukes started crafting tributes and predictions for the new millennium back in '95. Like he had an affinity for the year 2k and couldn't help but express it in poetics. Anyway this is the title track of Puba's 2000 and it's not bad.

G-Christ feat. DDC-Put It Down

I don't know too much about this track or how it came into my possession. As such, I can't speak too much on it's origin. Shit made a splash in the blog world and nothing more, but still Put It Down is a hard-hitting anthem with quite a few witticisms.

J.A.M.E.S. Watts-NineSevenThree

I just found J.A.M.E.S. Watts' Welcome Home tape recently, and that shit's been catching wreck. Although there are countless worthy jawns to throw up, there's something special about 973. On this track, J.A.M.E.S. plays the part of the urban tour guide and takes you through the many parts of Jersey. Shit's definitely quality, but there is the question of Mr. Watts scratching his own hook. It sounds a bit suspect, but other than that, this track is a definite keeper.

Erick Sermon feat. Redman & 11/29-Future Thug

You can find this on Erick Sermon's somewhat recent release Chilltown, New York. The beat is really catchy, and both E-Dub and Redman's verses are well watered-down, though they function in the context of this jawn. 11/29 is a southern-crooner who surprisingly doesn't sound out of place, although you might draw a different initial conclusion, based on the pedigree of the artists he's sharing an instrumental with.

Saigon-Say Yes

I found this jawn on Sai-Diddy's infamous Yardfather tape. If you don't know anything about dukes, know that he makes weak prison puns like their going out of style something quick. Yardfather is one of his worst. Still, when Saigon and the Alchemist combine forces, they always produce that piff, and when they offer you that audio crack, just Say Yes.
