Stan Ipcus-Druss Park

This is a jawn off my dude Stan Ipcus' most recent tape Ipmatic. You can stream the tape here, or cop it aqui. What really made me confident about the tape's illness is when dukes rapped over a Company Flow instrumental. Although that's not the highlight of Ipmatic. It's gotta be the cold gem Druss Park. An ode to Ip's former stomping grounds provides for a great summertime jawn.

illest Death Row Album: The Chronic

I'm very proud to own this blog after the quality results of this month's poll. Although there were some tough alternatives with Snoop's seminal Doggystyle and 'Pac's opus All Eyez On Me, it should have been quite clear that Dre still holds the crown with his g-funk masterpiece. Below are some of my favorite cuts, and the link for the poll is here.

Choice Cuts:

Lil' Ghetto Boy (feat. Snoop Dogg & Daz Dillinger)

Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat (feat. Snoop Dogg)

Wit' Dre Day (And Everyone's Celebratin') (feat. Snoop Dogg, Jewell & RBX)

Let Me Ride (feat. Snoop Dogg, Jewell * Ruben)

Buff1-Dream Streets

This is a jawn off Buff1's There's Only One. Honestly, first time I heard this track I didn't really like it. I mean, I knew that I loved the sample used by Vaughan T, but I couldn't tell if I really felt Buff's flow. After 20+ listens, I can confidently say that this shit is receiving constant play and is the undisputed gem off Buff's '08 release. For whatever that's worth..

Virtuoso feat. Casual & Deltron 3030-All We Know

I've been meaning to post this jawn for quite some time now. Not so much because it's particularly dope or ill (although it is a good listen), but moreover to show how Casual adopts a more 'raw' sound while flowing over some Stoupe production on the album of a Jedi Mind affiliate. I can't ever recall dukes being on his horrorcore shit so heavy. In fact, Casual spent the entirety of Fear Itself imitating Del Tha Funkee's flow with some type smooth rhimes. It's all love, but what happened man?

UK instrumental shits for a Monday. I found out about the stellar duo (part-time trio) from across the pond through the dope soundtracks on the SSX snowboarding games. I've been meaning to post more QNC shit, but my sloth-like tendencies have effectively stopped me from acquiring any further material by Curt & Q-Ball. N-E-Ways, you'll have to settle for some punchline rapp shit equipped with some gully production and an very adequate femcee.

Natural Elements-Bust Mine

Due to the Natural Elements amassing such a vast discography throughout the 1990's, you really have to dig to find their iller jawns. Too much minimalistic production and overbearing snare, not enough NE exhibiting posse-style rhime schemes and the such.

Ill Bill-Dope Fiend

Some '94 shit from Ill Bill off a tape full of demos/rarities from his earlier days. Hard to believe dukes has been around for 20 years, but only recently began achieving his due acclaim...
Anyway, Bill has constantly mentioned his uncle Howie's drug use in his last few albums, but Bill's finest drug ode comes in the form of Dope Fiend. Dukes is well-spoken with a Rugged Man-esque drawl, and drops witticisms unrivaled.

Dysfunkshunal Familee-New Ruff Flava

The Dysfunkshunal Familee released New Ruff Flava on an eponymous 12". I don't have that vinyl or that specific cut, but there's an unreleased copy of an album they were working on back in '94 that somehow found it's way onto the internets. PH-Halftime

I honestly can't say that I fucks with Pumpkinhead (PH) too heavy, but I did hear dukes' tape dedicated to his appreciation of the skinny jean infiltration of hip-hop.
A decent cover of the Nas classic, but nothing overly special, the reason I'm posting this jawn is that PH really matched Nas' rhimes bar for bar and threw in some clever punchlines among numerous cliches. Still worth a listen.

Lord Finesse feat. Marquee-Awakenings Interlude

I'm kind of tempted to just post some random Lord Finesse jawn whenever I'm short on time, simply because dukes has so many gems within his discog. Been working on that urge, but this is a cut off a vinyl tape entitled Rare Selections Vol.2.  If you haven't checked it out yet, take my word that shit is major. Shotgun shells to the head.

St. Laz-Straight From Brooklyn

You can find this on the Cookin Soul tape 1:00 A.M. And Rising that was released towards the end of last year. Shit's type quality, especially for some blog rapp shit. In my humble opine, Straight From Brooklyn is the lone gem of the tape. Cookin Soul got a feature from a genuine Brooklyn mixtape dude, in St. Laz, and dukes spits the realness.

Non-Phixion: Rock Stars

This is a track off Non-Phixion's '04 release The Future Is Now. Honestly, when that album came out, I was expecting a lot more, primarily in terms of production, but also in terms of aesthetic dopeness. Not surprisingly, the Primo produced track is ill.

Slum Village-Players

Players is one of the more mystic Dilla instrumentals, especially for a somewhat lighthearted album such as Fantastic Vol.2.  I read somewhere that the 'players' sample used for this jawn was actually lifted off an old record and is really saying 'Claire'. Onyx-Slam

Bacdafucup! I'm pretty sure that Slam was the lead single off Onyx's debut album. The hook for this jawn is probably what provided the most hardcore appeal. Onyx was marketed as a hardcore rapp act, but the hook for this track made it sound like an anthem for '93.
I was surprised to find out that Jam Master Jay produced/co-produced almost the majority of this album. Can't say it sounds like his work, but I also can't say that it doesn't sound anything like the deceased production legend.
