DL Incognito-Claim To Fame

Although DL Incognito has his backpack fastened far too tightly, on occasion dude also produced dope music.
Off A Captured Moment In Time comes Claim To Fame. Well-produced with a beautiful jazz sample used in the loop, and even Mr. Incognito comes correct on this cut.

Junior M.A.F.I.A.-Get Money

Are we all in accordance that Conspiracy is one of the illest ill-fated god+weed carriers group ever created? It shits on The Firm's The Album for a fact, and the Outlawz albums ain't even an fathomable comparison.
Not sure who EZ Elpee is, but he crafted a masterful composition on this one. The sample couldn't be more perfect, and Lil Kim's rhymes are awe-inspiring. Sure, it's still the typical sex rapps, but these shits are something special. Who the ghostwriter was?

Hezekiah feat. Bahamadia-Gypsy Slang

You can find this one on Hezekiah's Hurry Up & Wait. Otherwise a fairly subpar album, Gypsy Slang was easily one of the standouts, with or without the Bahamadia feature.
Anthony Accurate's production is slightly reminiscent of Primo at times, but the drums don't hit as hard and the scratches ain't raw enuff. Still some shit worth checking for.

Jae Millz-Go Crazy Freestyle

I fucks with Jae Millz something heavy. It's moderately difficult to fully express Millz' appeal to the common head, but it has something to do with how he'll rhyme 'outlandish' with 'lyrical lung cancer', or bragging about holding '2 years of college on my neck'.
Dude is one of the OG '00 NYC freestyle battle rap cats, back from the Papoose era. Remember that? Millz freestyle over Jeezy's Go Crazy will remind you.

Life-Moviedrome

Found this on Life's Everyday Life. Admittedly, it's somewhat pretentious to make a pun out of your album name, but don't let that derail you. Everyday Life contains everything you could hope for from a proper bloke. In fact, Life has knowledge infinite, shit's mad impressive. On Moviedrome he drops cinematic references for 5 minutes + over some right ill production.

Likwit Junkies-S.C.A.N.S.

Likwit Junkies is DJ Babu (of the Dilated Peoples) and left coast vet Defari. These two released The L.J.'s in '05, and to be honest, it's a fairly sub-par release. However there are some gems to be found, such as S.C.A.N.S., a tribute jawn to LA/Cali.
Some of Babu's dopest production to be found, and Defari drops some pigeon poo illness.

I've been getting into the Stick 2 The Script/Spell My Name Right shits as of late. I suppose it has already been determined that Statik Selektah is remarkably nice with the beats, but my narcolepsy let me down.

Anyway, Capri proves himself to be quite the beatsmith on The Tape, however his vocals are clearly lacking. On This Is What You Came For, Capri slows the flow down and kicks some real shit.

Miles Davis-Venus De Milo

Ain't ya knew that Miles has got styles upon styles for all the suckas? Venus De Milo can be found on Birth Of The Cool from 1950. Although it's one of MD's more mediocre records (in my most humble opine, of course), there are still countless gems to be found on Birth Of The Cool. Perhaps the greatest is a dedication to an famous piece of Greek sculpture. At least the Digable Planets haven't ruined that for us yet.

Oxygen Refreshed turned out to be one of the illest records I heard in 2009 (despite it being originally released in '07). H.I.P. - H.O.P. is a prime example of what to expect, shit that lifts you to a different mental elevation. Real talk, give this jawn a listen, you'll get lifted.

A Clipse jawn from the Hell Hath No Fury days, the Pharrell influence is definitely apparent, but the brothers Thornton still spit lava unmatched. Dalek-Corrupt (Knuckle Up)

I tend not to stray this far away from 'traditional' hip hop. Not to say I don't give shine to Kool Keith or Dan The Automator, far from it, but Dälek is quite out there. MC Dälek is ill with the vocals, but the Oktopus provides a wide array of sounds not found in hip hop. After reading up on these dudes, one word that is mentioned quite often is industrial, an independent genre of rock that is unique all it's own.
Suffice it to say, Dälek's Abandoned Language isn't the safest acquisition for a typical head, but if you're willing to experience new sounds have at it. Corrupt is not very indicative of the album as a whole, but provides a lovely soundscape for MC Dälek to drop some visceral phrases.

Shyheim is my dunn, only until recently did I realize the charisma duke possesses. Him and Lamont Coleman trade lyrical barbs on this jawn over a gem of an instrumental. If you ask me, Furious Anger didn't deserve to be an L leftover, I'm not entirely sure when it was recorded, but this jawn should have a place on The Big Picture without any doubt.

Cover Art Something Visceral Vol.2

In case you somehow missed Vol.1, you can check that shit here. Otherwise, you should already know what the business is.

Although I'm not really a fan of this group even in the most casual sense, I'll gladly admit that this cover is real dope. Maybe it's the purposeful disarray of objects that is well-represented on Nia, or perhaps it's the overall abstract value, but this is cover art to be appreciated.

You can always expect a little something extra from El-P's creative vision and the cover for Fantastic Damage illustrates just that. Graffiti elements combined with pseudo expressionism. What's fuckin' with that?

This one depends more on graphic design than anything else, but it still looks dope and tells the story of what to expect from Scars & Memories. The wing shape of his 'scars and memories' holds infinite symbolism.

Best hip hop cover of all time.

I don't know what to say about this cover, but I still consider it ill as fuck.

This is one of those covers, where you can make of it what you will. The despair is obvious, but the overall message can lead you to think on it for hours.

Method Man-Tical

Although Mef has had a prolific career, I don't believe he's ever bested his album-named opus. Regardless of how you look at it, Tical is an immaculate jawn. The first 10 seconds of the song might be the best, although the ethereal flute sample bears no significance on the rest of Tical, it sets the mood for the presumptuously unorthodox four minutes that will follow.
The bare drums complement Mef's murderous rapps to a tee, and I've never heard a more perfect hook in my life.

Main Source-Fuck What You Think

For all the recognition that Breaking Atoms attains, Main Source crafted their true opus in the oft-uttered Fuck What You Think. Although there are no classic cuts like Live At The Barbeque or metaphor-based street tales like Just A Friendly Game Of Baseball, Fuck What You Think is by far the more cohesive and succinct album, one might even call it 'doper'. Due to group conflict, Main Source's second album was stocked and subsequently shelved within the same year. Large Pro re-released it in '99, and it had the same effect as when Xtra P re-released his own The LP this year, or when Q-Tip liberated Kamaal The Abstract. If an album is not released within it's proper time frame it loses value to the majority of it's consumers. The LP was kind of weak sauce, but if Kamaal The Abstract were to be released in '96 by Geffen, it would have provided an medium between his ATCQ work and Amplified.
The same can be said for Fuck What You Think, and almost every other album. Can you imagine if Illmatic or Ready To Die were shelved and released in '99? Would they still achieve the same level of adoration? It's hard to say, but I believe it's worth the 40 some minutes to hear an album that probably should be mentioned alongside the other '94 classics. You think not? Fuck What You Think.
