Kam Moye-Self Centered EP
If you're familiar with Little Brother and the collective of talented, self-conscious rappers they assembled into the Justus League, you're most likely aware of Supastition. Although dukes is not mentioned as part of the Justus League, he performs countless guest features among the members albums. In '08, Supastition changed his name to Kam Moye. Maybe some alter-ego shit or something of the like.
He also released a quality tape entitled The Self Centered EP. Although it's indicative of most tapes you hear from Little Brother affiliated artists, shit still bangs consistently. Below are some of the premier cuts and the dl link:

The Year In Freshness
Although '09 has passed, and '010 is already upon us, I figured I'd throw up one mix that offers a definitive conclusion on the year before. The homie Elmattic put together this 'best of '09 mix', and it really offers an wide perspective of what '09 was all about, and after looking through all the albums I listened to in '09, I'm hard-pressed to find any jawns that I would include. And that's not to say I'd even heard everything included on this mix. Enjoy:

Poe Picasso-Exhibit B: Manifest Destiny
I done had this for quite some time now, but been on my sloth game in not throwing this up yet. Poe Picasso is a Brooklynite with an unique contribution to the wide array of the rapp game. Intellectual rhymes with an deep respect for those that came before him, and an ear for beats that is dead-on. Can you ask for more?
If you missed Exhibit A, you can find it here, peep the illest jawns below and make sure to cop this.

The Doppelgangaz-The Ghastly Duo EP
Robbie posted the Doppelgangaz' The Ghastly Duo EP in mid-July to minimal reactions. I copped it at the time and left it dormant for a few months. Shameful now, because The Ghastly Duo EP is one of the illest collections of music released in '08/'09. Although it's typical EP length (5 jawns, one of them an intro), shit is well worth your time.

Mally-The Passion
I found out about Mally through TSS and had The Passion sitting in the crates for a few months now. Somehow, I heavily slept on my fellow 612 resident for far too long.
The Passion is full of soulful samples and thought-inspiring lyricism. Mally proves that his chill-inspiring performance on The Letter is no fluke. Rather, Mally refined his whole steez. From a raw spitta to a holistically complete emcee, from making dope rhymes to making ill songs. There's a standard of quality on The Passion that is almost unrivaled in all of today's releases. The instrumentals are almost always on point, and Mally keeps it ill with the rhymes and flows.

has-lo: You Can Live Through Anything If Magic Made It
I remember Trav from WYDU was big uppin' has-lo something serious at the start of the year. Sadly, I just heard the tape, and it has been on constant repeat for the last few weeks. Look at the cover, a Magic Johnson trading card, that's imaginative and dope.
The music inside is even better, has-lo has some of the illest beats I've ever heard. Spine-crushingly dope, I promise.
Prime example is the OG version of Best To Do It by Supastition, Royce Da 5'9 and Elzhi. Now peep game:
Dope, ehh?

Joe Budden- Mood Muzik 2
Before Joe Buddens was parading around New York and Jerz proclaiming how dope he was, he made dope music. I think it's generally agreed that his Mood Muzik series is one of hip hop's best. It's no DJ Clue or Doo Wop, but it's that NY boom-bap with those introspective Joey rhymes that keep you listening.
In terms of history, the first Mood Muzik was the one that created all the hype, and the second one (this one) went down as classic in the minds of almost all that heard it. Obviously, the third edition was a bit of a letdown in comparison to the second one, but still a stellar tape.
If you're one of those people whose only heard Joe Budden's newer material (from Halfway House through Slaughterhouse), one listen to this tape should explain why the man used to be held in such high regard.

J.A.M.E.S. Watts- Shameless Promotion: The Game Needs James
J.A.M.E.S. Watts has long been my dude. An introspective rhymer with the expansive vocabulary and thought process of an author, equipped with an insane ear for beats, and an thoughtful discography that solely consists of quality material.
Shameless Promotion: The Game Needs James was released a bit before his 12 Minute tape, that got some serious buzz a few years back. Although both are good in their own way, this tape shows off James' versatility and countless methods of making dope records.

Atmosphere- Strickly Leakage
Being from Minnesota, I've kind of forced Atmosphere unto myself. They're definitely not a group I liked at first, but after giving them multiple listens, I'm starting to appreciate Ant & Slug's special brand of hip hop. Strictly Leakage is what did it for me. I think I heard this was a free giveaway in anticipation for If Live Gives You Lemons, Paint That Shit Gold. Regardless, it's a great tape, and one easily worth hearing.

Ya Boy- Chapter 1: The Rise
Ya Boy is an artist from the bay who used to be (maybe still is) affiliated with Black Wall Street way back when. Back when he was getting his name around he did a few tapes with DJ Skee that were really dope. I believe Chapter 1: The Rise was the first of them.
Off the strength of this tape, I acquired the rest of dude's discog and it proved to be much less impressive. There was a certain quality to Ya Boy that got lost in translation as his career grew. Chapter 1 captured that raw vibe and supplemented it with superb production. You'd do well to check this tape.

Pacific Division- Blend Tape
I've been listening to this tape quite a bit lately, especially with the mediocrity that was Church League Champions. The Blend Tape was some serious dopeness presented in an extremely light-hearted fashion. It's no question that these kids can spit, but their delivery is presented in a joking manner. Still, their ear for beats is fairly precise, with cuts over classic instrumentals like Unbelievable, '93 Till Infinity, and the ever-popular Definition.

Crust and Grimes- Pokemon Tape #1
Speaking for myself, I was a huge Pokemon stan back in the day. I would sneak my Gameboy into class and play when the teacher wasn't looking. I also set up a little hustle where I would trade cards during lunch, and eventually I had all sorts of gems in my collection.
For a while that was a forgotten chapter in my life, until my dukes Crust & Grimes created a Pokemon beat tape. The concept is creating instrumentals that describe the essence of a certain Pokemon through sound. C&G dig deep on this one too, none of that Pikachu and Charzard bullshit, they spotlight dopeness like Geodude, Electrode, Magmar, Spearow, and Vileplume among countless others.
Trust me, this is a beat tape like none you have heard before. Aside from the ill concept, the instrumentals are top-notch. MPC heaven. Choice cuts and the dl link below.

G*Two & The Congregation- Suns Out Guns Out
My duke G*Two had been telling me about the follow-up to his One Man Army mixtape months before he unleashed it upon the world.
In his own words:
Now, I say this modestly, it (One Man Army) gave me somewhat of a name amongst my peers. However, some didn't receive it so well, which I can completely understand. It lacked the 'coastal' sound. Lol. Anyway, some said I wasn't lyrical, some said I was monotone, boring, not believable; etc.
So with my next effort I'm going for a more holistic sound. Dumbing it down if you will. I know some will be upset but I've weighed the pros and cons and the pros are winning like the damn cavaliers.
So anyway, I'm going all the way on this one. Best of both worlds. Lyrical content, and listener friendly songs. I'm also teaming up with a production duo (Congregation Productions) to entirely produce the project. It's called: Sun's Out, Guns Out.
After giving Suns Out, Guns Out a fair listen, I can agree with his previous assessment of going for a coastal sound. Not so much dumbing down the lyrics, as much as adhering to a wider range of listeners. There's a few jawns that I don't necessarily like, but the rest of the tape is dope. Well worth a listen.

LoveJones and Phys Edison- Sunday Drive
My dude Mike Schpitz aka Mike Jones aka Who? aka LoveJones had been telling me about his debut album for quite some time. Dropping all sorts of teases and what-not. I'm not talking singles per se, more like Pharoahe Monch/Biggie/ATCQ covers which built more anticipation for me than any Zshare link.
And he released Sunday Drive (with Phys Edison) back in late May, if memory serves me correct. I've had the album since then, but for numerous reasons, I've also been too neglectful to throw it up. Not any more.
This tape/LP is one of the most creative pieces of hip hop you'll get your ears on anytime soon. The production is top-notch and LoveJones' flow is on the level of a G-O-D. Don't believe me? The homie Hav at Flawless Hustle posted a full audio stream of the whole album. I included my favorite jawns below. You can check the whole stream here.

Depakote- From My Heart To Yours Ears
Depakote hit me up with his whole discography about a week ago, and I've been steadily progressing through them shits at an alarming rate.
The tape that stood out most to me, musically, was From My Heart To Yours Ears. After my first listen, I knew that it was an beat tape that could grab your attention from the onset and put you in a different mindset by the outro. K.Sidney- Letters To Windy
For some reason unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the Chi keeps pumping out dope producers like nobody's business. K. Sidney joins ill company with his tape/dedication to the Chi called Letters To Windy.
The production on this tape is superb from front to back, top to bottom. Ranging from soulful-felt memento's like I Got Love to jazzy yet heart-felt jawns like Sympathy For A Villain.
K. Sidney proved to be versatile on a lyrical tip, and was able to adjust his flow to a multitude of instrumentals, however, I did have to hit delete a few times (I Need You To Hate Me and Feelin' Yo' Persona). Otherwise the tape was solid and you should definitely at least give it a chance.

Rashid Hadee- A Change Gon' Come
Possibly the illest mixtape ever created. Pay no attention to the belaguered image of Big Pooh, as this tape is almost fully devoid of any Little Brother influence. Instead, it's inhabited by an euphoric "Windy City" sound, with it's own cast of characters just as unique as the music that drives it.
If you couldn't tell by the title, this is Rashid Hadee taking inspiration from Sam Cooke's best-known work, and creating soulful instrumentals that are constantly abused and terrorized (in a good way) by a variety of Chapter 13 members and affiliates.
This tape goes 30 tracks deep, but keeps your attention in every way. To not click the dl button, is to sleep in a major way.

TheMessageBlog.com Presents: The Warriors
The homie Wally $ean has been holding me down on the compilation tip for a few months now, and it's time to shine light on some of the ill compilations and write-up's over at TMB dot com. This is a brand new tape, based on The Warriors (any Wu-Tang swordsman's favorite film), incorporating lots of hardcore '90's joints fo that ass!
Here's the official description, and the back cover + dl link ensue at the bottom.
Inspired by the 1979 film of the same name, the tape is a retrospective of '90s hardcore Hip-Hop. Like the Warriors themselves, hardcore Hip-Hop acts are something of a phenom in today's game, seemingly attacked from all sides by industry big-wigs, bongo drum-slapping backpackers and wack-ass hipsters. So, as they say in the flick, "Warriors, come out and plaaayeeyaaay!"
