Mac Lethal-Chiefin

I dropped countless hints towards this tape, and it's finally here.
For those that are unaware of Mac Lethal, I can assure you that the man's lyrical prowess and ethereal subject matter will win you over. A Midwest kid who raps equal amounts of Wu Tang and George Carlin, a cultural connoisseur of sorts.
Do me a solid and give Mac Lethal a chance, after all ML is for the kids.

Andre Nickatina- Ghost Of Fillmoe

I've been writing this intro for almost an hour, trying to eloquently describe the illness that is Andre Nickatina. An feat that's nearly impossible to put into words.
Maybe half a year ago I was talking to DJ Haylow about the countless influential West-Coast hip hop artists he has had a chance to meet/interview over the years. Dude's list was impressive, from legends like Ras Kass to turntable maestro's like Exile, to new-school acts like U-N-I and Pac Div, to damn near anybody not named Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, or Suge Knight who ever claimed their domain on the left-coast.
Eventually, I asked about King Nicky, and to my bewilderment Haylow had seen/promptly met Dre Dog at an industry function. And so I asked: "What was he like?", and was met with: "Well, I didn't really get a chance to kick it with him, he came in all dressed up, pimp suit and all, and kept to himself at the back of the club". *That's not by any means a direct nor accurate quote. Paraphrase.*
I also had a friend who saw Nickatina live in concert, and told me more of the same: "Laid-back, loner, and kept to himself".
Then came the classic Strivin' interviews. Here and here. It was in these interviews that Andre himself admitted to a general dislike of interviews, and a shyness that would seem unbecoming of a rapper.
So that's when Andre Nickatina piqued my interest. A rapper that's more than happy to get local recognition and nothing more? A guy that's been in the rap game for 15 years and is still an enigma to almost everyone. As proof, try and find video interviews of Nicky or even 10 different pictures of the god.
In an conscious effort to familiarize myself with his music, I copped nearly his whole discography. I was a Nicky fan before acquiring his entire catalog, but listening to him as Jim Jones, or spitting alongside Equipto and Mac Dre, just made me appreciate the man that much more. He's an unique musical talent.
So, in an effort to raise the awareness of such a dope artist, I put about 8 hours of work into creating an encompassing compilation to give listeners an wide array of what I consider the man's best work.
Enough from me right? All I ask is that you give this tape a chance, and I promise you won't regret it.

And here's an official tracklist:

Swollen Members - Narcoleptic Warriors

I'll be the first to admit that I didn't dig very deep for this compilation when I did it (maybe 4 or 5 months ago). I listened to all the studio albums that Prevail and Madchild had created, and chose my top 17 from there. No mixtapes, rarities, remixes, guest features, nothing.
Still, I think it was pretty solid, and the most important thing - it gave a good sampling of the Swollen Members sound for those who may have been (and those that still are) unaware of what they were sleeping on. Hence, Narcoleptic Warriors.
On a very loosely-related sidenote, watch out for an Andre Nickatina compilation in the next few days. Shit's gonna blow your mind. Otherwise, enjoy, and props to the homie Hamza for the two mp3's at the bottom.

AZ- Schwepervesence

Right after the immaculate-ness that is N.Y. State Of Mind, comes the best song off Illmatic. For those that don’t have the Bible of this ‘ere culture memorized track-by-track, that song is Life’s A Bitch. L.E.S. takes Black Frost by Grover Washington Jr. and Yearning For Your Love by The Gap Band, and creates one of hip-hop’s timeless instrumentals. Nas comes through with some of his most introspective lyrics to date. Nas’ father Olu Dara comes in at the end and kills it on the cornet. But everyone remembers AZ’s lone verse. No matter how bad Nas bloodied that track, his performance doesn’t compare to AZ’s. His first time on wax and AZ delivered one of the most inhuman verses in all hip-hop history.
As such this compilation acknowledges the birth of a legend, and chronicles his best throughout his 14 years in the game.

Nas- Memory Lane

Although I plan to feature the song itself sometime soon, I'll take this time to unleash another gem from the HHHead archives. With this tape I was planning on creating a suitable memory of Nas's career by choosing two songs off all of his previous albums, and two songs from his pre-Illmatic days. The tape feels a little bit incomplete because it doesn't feature any songs from Untitled, but to quote Geoff Fisher:

When you aim for perfection, you discover it's a moving target.

1. A Message To The Feds, Sincerely, We The People
2. Queens Get The Money
3. Thief's Theme
4. No Idea's Original
5. You're The Man
6. Take It In Blood
7. Nas Is Like
8. The World Is Yours
9. Shoot 'Em Up
10 .Get Down
11. I'm A Villain
12. Come Get Me
13. Purple
14. Live Nigga Rap
15. One Mic
16. Money Over Bullshit
17. Undying Love
18. Just A Moment
19. Dance
20. War
21. You Can't Stop Us Now
22. N.Y. State Of Mind
23. Back To The Grill
24. Hope

Del Tha Funkee Homosapien-Dark Streets: A Lifetime of Funkiness

This is a compilation of Del's finest that me and Mookie put together a while back on HHHead. I think we covered all the bases, but we put a few too many joints from No Need For Alarm on here. Regardless, shit's ill, I promise you. And that front cover? What's fuckin' with that?
