J.R. Writer feat. Un Kasa-Venting

A gem off the great Writers Block I. This track is piff, but you could pretty much choose any track off that tape, and be satisfied. I have yet to hear WB4, hoping that it's as quality as J.R.'s other tapes. On another note, I love how dukes' uses "I don't mean" as a perfect precursor for all of his punchlines. That Diplomatic shit you need in your life.

Joe Budden-Dumb Out

Can't even imagine how that picture came to be haha, word to UNT. This is the prototypical Buddens punchline track, dude dumbs out for 7 minutes. Can't even say that track is all that memorable, but Joey drops some witty shit every other line so it's definitely worth a listen.

Re-Up Gang:Re-Up Intro

These We Got It 4 Cheap tapes got some serious shine when they came out, and still sound good to this day. Numerous gems on those tapes, but the crown jewel has to be this jawn. While it isn't as sentimentally provoking as other tracks in the Clipse discog, it's right up there with the ferocity of the punchlines and the rewind factor present throughout the entire track.

Cam'ron-Leave You Alone

To me, this is that prototypical Cam shit. Just straight talking his shit over an incredibly simplistic beat. It's such a simple but understated formula.

AZ feat. Fresh-Make Me

AZ's done the boom-bap shit, done the mafioso shit, done the grimy gutta shit, and the punchline-heavy soul sampled shits. Is there a style AZ hasn't mastered yet?

Ras Kass-John Is Real

Conceptually, this track is a mess. As soon as the beat kicks in, Ras is on his bullshit, re-hashing the most memorable part of Cassidy's I'm A Hustla. Between each verse, Ras decides to sing the hook, and it comes out sounding type awful.
All that aside, when Ras is spitting, there's no competition.  Ain't shit realer.

Evidence-I Know

This is the title track off Ev's The Weatherman LP. It's only right that Mr. Slow Flow should come out firing on the very first track, over the illest instrumental off the whole LP. Shit's well dope, even though the hook is a bit cutesy.

Fabolous-Suicide

This is a track off Fabolous' Gangsta Grillz tape called There Is No Competition. As far as mixtapes go, shit is fires, and might even trump a large part of Fab's earlier albums. Dukes provides some serious punchline-type rapping and the way he delivers his clever witticisms makes them all the more memorable. As for this jawn, it's some Gravediggaz 1-800-Suicide type shit.

Kronic Plague-Please

I already posted one song off Kronic Plague's Legal Dope tape. To be honest, shit is definitely on an underground level, but Kron still packs some heat with the rhimes and gets some top-notch production for this jawn.

Little Brother-The Becoming

You can find this jawn on Little Brother's The Minstrel Show. Over an ill soul-sampled 9th Wonder instrumental, Phonte kicks knowledge universal, equipped with countless punchlines and other shit.

Element-Lay 'Em Down

Element is a member of the group Custom Made, who released a solo project back in '03 called Great Expectations. Honestly, Element is a dope emcee, and Custom Made is a dope group as well, but lots of their material is straight stagnant and somewhat repetitive. Similarly Element can appear to be a one-dimensional spitta, but on Lay 'Em Down he got past that while 'talking that shit'.

Cam'ron-Where I Know You From

Like an true ignoramus, I doubted Cam's ability to craft another opus. Crime Pays is similar to all his previous efforts in that it's composed of half dopeness and half filler. It's like dukes doesn't age at all, his talent in creating witticisms is unrivaled.
And I believe Where I Know You From to be the unrivaled best off Crime Pays. Shit's without competition.

40 Cal-40 Cals

You can find this one on 40 Cal's Broken Safety 2. Dude is well-known as a battle rapper, but not for much else. It's understandable because 40 can't really structure a song for shit, and most of his hooks are type trite.
Still, you can't deny dukes' charisma and the wittiness of some of his one-liners.

Jeru The Damaja-How ill

You can find this one on Jeru's latest effort Still Rising. Although I'm a fan of the Damaja's earlier works, it sounds a bit hypocritical to hear a former/current 5%'er rhymin' 'bout "smoke a blunt with a leprechaun". Still, if you want a glimpse at the old Jeru, How Ill is your best look at it. He rolls deep with the metaphors and similes on this jawn.

NoCanDo-Hurry Up And Wait

I never thought I'd be posting any jawns like this, but for whatever reason, shit's been stuck in my head since I heard it in the morning. For better or for worse, NoCanDo adopts a very eclectic approach to rappin' on Jimmy The Lock. Dukes mixes AutoTune with elements of Busdriver-esque fast rap, and Jae Millz punchline rap for Hurry Up And Wait. No gem by any means, but might could be worth a listen.

Fabolous feat. Red Cafe-I'm The Man

It pains me to hear that my dukes John Jackson can't spit, primarily because of jawns such as this. Ain't shit that's gonna be remembered years from now, but it knocks for the moment.
Fabo only enlists Red Cafe for the hook, but imagine the illness that could have transpired if the two of 'em would have spit twofold.
