Personally, I have a hard time getting into all that Bay shit. For some reason, I can bump all of King Nicky's shit with no problem, but E-40, Mac Dre & Messy Marv just leave me with a bitter taste in my ear. Little Brother-For You

This is one of those 9th instrumentals that sounds so beautiful on the loop, but just feels like it's missing that last piece to be perfect. All that said, this track is a gem, Phonte & Pooh on they punchline rapp shit and 9th really does provide an excellent instrumental. No life-changing shit here, but definitely something that'll keep you nodding your head.

I can honestly say that I have been slacking with this blog, on the real. I apologize for that.
Anyway, this is off The Preface from '08. Not to jock Elzhi (not like I have to, dudes rode this tape like none other in the summer of '08) but dukes really crafted something amazing in The Preface. So many standout jawns and the album as a whole is incredibly cohesive and flows very well from song-to-song. That said, El did get partially bodied by Fes Roc on this track, Fes kills it.

Mos Def-Hip Hop

Just cos I been bumping Black On Both Sides to no end & it was between the Primo-produced Mathematics and this jawn. To be perfectly honest, Mos comes so fucking hungry and raw on this track that you can't deny the pure outpour of emotion.
This is one of those joints you have to listen to multiple times before you really begin to understand the many complexities and layers to what Mos is saying.

I've liked this track for a long-ass time, but it took the video for me to truly enjoy this jawn fully. The video is really interesting, and fully embraces the concept of Sean P as a therapist (not the most believable impersonation, but I can't front on dukes either). This is off the type ghey-ly titled 9 Lives. That punchline-heavy shit you've come to expect from Anthony on a straight belligerent tip.
Actually, to be perfectly honest, I didn't really like this track the first few times I heard it. Most of AZ's shit is straightforward like that, you either like it or are indifferent to it upon first listen. This track is different though, I feel like AZ tried a new sound, and while he didn't entirely master it, he still provided a good listen.

Mad Skillz-Tip Of The Tongue

While I still haven't really given Skillz' From Where??? the proper listen it deserves, I was really surprised by the quality of the production. There's dudes like Large Pro, Dilla & Buckwild that lace Skillz with production, but some of the true instrumentals come from lesser-known producers like Shawn J Period and Nick Wiz. This is one of the standout tracks off that tape, but the hook is type weak sauce.

This is a cut off Rashid Hadee's It Ain't Hard To Tell EP. This track definitely appears on other tapes too, but I believe this was it's origin. If I haven't said it enuff times already I'll say it once more, Rashid Hadee is the truth, and you should check out all his shit. I ain't really with that 808's remake, but it's still far more listenable than 'Ye's OG version.
