Although I'm relatively unfamiliar with MC Solaar's discography, I'm a bit puzzled why he's so poorly received in the US. Apparently, he may have employed some shady business practices when collaborating with Guru of GangStarr, but the official details are very cryptic.
In fact, MC Solaar uses a large amount of jazz in his instrumentals, which provides for a great backdrop to his soothing voice.
**I was mistaken before, it's Solar the producer that is so disliked, apologies to MC Solaar, and props to the commentor who pointed it out.

naw, mc solaar is cool in the states. it's "superproducer" solar who's been despised as of late. two different dudes, the latter's been involved with some shady business concerning Guru as of late. or so the story goes.
