Big Pooh is this era's MC Serch. Am I saying that he's an obnoxious, overweight, Jewish kid trying to prosper in a culture that would typically shun him? Not really.
MC Serch never really lived up to the first part of his name. As an rapper, he was very mediocre, but he had an amazing ear for talent. Signing Nasty Nas was just the tip of the iceberg for Serch. In much the same way, Pooh is an average lyricist, with an inconspicious ear. Founding Justus League, rapping alongside Phonte, and being blessed with production from 9th Wonder among others is a lot considering Pooh's abilities.
That said, he delivers a pretty decent verse on Heart Of The City, while 9th really does portray the sound of the city.
