On paper, Prince Paul and Dan The Automator joining forces sounds like a great idea. Alas, the two didn't come together on a Beatnuts tip (producing jawns for a multitude of like-minded emcees), but on a creative tip. And as anyone who has listened to a De La album or a Kool Keith album knows, it was no surprise. In fact, it should have happened earlier.
My only qualm with Handsome Boy Modeling School is that it's real gimmicky. Dan and Paul really committed to this bourgeousie satire aspect, but being the free-thinking, creative-minded producers they are, it doesn't constrict them a bit.
If It Wasn't For You was a song that I hated the first, second, and third time I heard it. However, the catchy hook and instrumental grew on me, and it's become a HBM favorite.
